FreeMeshX is a global terrain mesh replacement for the stock terrain mesh inside Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Flight Simulator X Steam Edition, and Prepar3D (V1,V2, V3, V4), and features LOD10 (38-m) coverage for almost the entire world. LOD10 is equal to the same terrain level of detail used for the USA in the stock scenery. The rest of the world varies from LOD6 to LOD9. FreeMeshX was created to bring the rest of the world up to the LOD10 standard as much as possible, although some regions of the world in the higher latitudes are still limited to LOD9 (76-m).
Towards the end of 2014, NASA began to release newer, upgraded terrain data for regions outside of the USA that was higher in resolution and also void-filled. This SRTM 3.0 data is identical to the quality of the USA SRTM data that is available at 1-arcsecond resolution (30-m).
FreeMeshX LOD10 (38-m) coverage:
- North America (LOD10 Canada is released in this mesh - default USA is already LOD10, so USA is not included for the base release. An LOD11 - LOD12 USA mesh is WIP.)

- Russian territories north of 60 N latitude
FreeMeshX was compiled using over 400 GB of raw terrain data. The final size of the product is 46 GB, making it one of the largest freeware projects ever for FS. It wouldn't be in everyone's best interests to download all 46 GB at once, so we are releasing the product the product into continental regions for a total of 7 downloads total. Each continent contains a number of 10 deg x 10 deg titles, created from 1 deg x 1 deg tiles into an approximately 2.5 GB file, and then compressed into a multi-LOD BGL file. Defragmentation is highly recommended for mechanical hard drives to ensure smooth and quick loading.
Largest improvements are found in regions that contained mainly the default LOD6 and LOD7 meshes. These included remote regions of Africa, South America, Antarctica, and Asia. Europe and Canada sees some improvement, but its LOD9 mesh is just a one level upgrade to LOD10. Subtle improvements for these previously LOD9 regions will be found mainly in the accuracy of the mesh and level of detail in mountain ranges.

A 50 GB LOD12 (9.5 m pixel size) terrain mesh that enhances the topography of the continental 48 United States is available for open beta testing.

Step 2 Search for your book in Library Genesis
So, you should now be at a page that looks like this – this is the main search page of Library Genesis.
Simply enter your search term into the search box – there's no need to change any of the settings.
You might enter an author, book title or subject.
For our example we're going to search for Lewis Carroll's classic 'Alice in Wonderland'.
Enter in Alice in Wonderland or Lewis Carroll and press search.
Step 3 Find your book
So, now you should be seeing the below (click on image to show larger version). You can click on the relevant headers – 'Authors', 'Title', 'Publisher', 'Year', 'Pages', 'Language', 'Size' and 'Extension' – to sort the columns. Also remember that there may be more than one page of results – these can be navigated via the numbered links at the bottom.
The important things to look for are:
- Language
- Extension – generally, .epub and .mobi are the most compatible with e-readers like Kindle, Moon+ Reader (read our review here), iBooks and Calibre. PDFs are also compatible, but tend to be much larger (and sometimes more difficult to read) as they will often be scans of books, rather than e-books. Other formats might work, but they might not.
- Size – if you are using a device with limited storage space, like an iPhone etc, you might want to steer clear of really large files!
Step 4 Click on the download link
You'll see on the right hand side of the screen 5 download mirror links in the 'mirrors' column.
So, click on one of the recommended mirrors as outlined below (you might want to right click and 'open in new tab' – especially if you are downloading multiple books).
Step 4.1 Alternative download method
You can also click on the book title – this will take you to the following page:
Here, you can click on the mirrors 1-5 (please not that, despite the names, the urls are the same as in the mirror guide). There are also some torrent links, but they don't seem to work very well.
The procedure is the same as below – its just another screen to go through.
